Thumbs up Like metal, rock, etc.? Check this out! Includes songs and tons of important info.

Here is a band that only has 1 guitarist, and 1 drummer, nobass, no singing, nothing else.

That'll sound like crap right? Wrong.

Listen to this.

Song 1 (Probing Tranquility by Sleep Terror): http://media.putfile.com/tranquility
Song 2 (Dysrhythmic Vexation by Sleep Terror): http://media.putfile.com/Dysrhythmic

Now that I got that out of the way, listen to some of this, their band name is Necrophagist. You might not like the voice (growl-style singing) but believe me it's not easy to do, growling consists of using your odd vocal cords which clean-style singers NEVER use. If you're a fan of drums, bass, and guitar, you'll most likely fall in love with this band. There are many other bands like this but not exactly the same but come close.

Listen to this. I'll list what song appeal to what type of instrument user and point it out accordingly.

--Songs with the "%" sign beside it will strongly appeal to drummers--
--Songs with the "$" sign beside it will strongly appeal to guitarists--
--Songs with the "@" sign beside it will strongly appeal to bassists--

$ Song 1 $ (Foul body autospy by Necrophagist) (Note: Check out the whole song.): http://media.putfile.com/Necrophagis...ody-Autopsy-58

% Song 2 % (Seven by Necrophagist) (Note: Check out the bass drum work in the intro): http://media.putfile.com/Seven-69

@ Song 3 @ (Only ash remains by Necrophagist) (Note: Check out the bass in the intro): http://media.putfile.com/necrophagist

Sleep Terror is a 2 man band, yes they're badass. The genre is a mix of Progressive Death Metal and Jazz (Weird combo, but works out flawlessly.)

Bands like this proves that non-famous bands are always the better bands than the stuff you hear on the radio. An example of the crap on the radio, Greenday, Simple Plan, Sum 41, Fallout boy, Panic! at the disco. Sorry if I offend people that like those bands, but come on, any beginner at drums, guitar, or bass, can play songs by the example bands that I've just listed. The reason bands like Sleep Terror, Necrophagist aren't on the radio as much (and many more super talented bands) is because it's too "extreme" for people.

The bands listed (Greenday etc.) are super rich, even though they lack talent. They get by on image mostly, they've got SOME talent but not much trust me. They DO have the talent to look 'cool' for teenagers etc. though.

Learn an instrument, guitar, drums, bass, piano, etc. and once you get really good at it, you'll notice that you seek better more talented music, and you'll recognize the less popular bands for how talented and how hard their music is to play. I'm 19, been drumming for 14 years (yes, since I was 5). Around the age of 10 my taste in music was horrible and I only listened to the music that other kids were listening and I wanted to fit in etc. like most kids do. Once I got more serious about drumming as I got better I picked up better types of genres and bands.

Death Metal, Black metal, Heavy metal, metal, etc. etc. might sound like just noise but it's more than that.

An example of some Bass tabs from the band Necrophagist in the song Fermented Offal Discharge: http://www.bassmasta.net/n/necrophagist/162945.html <-- Tell me that's not some badass stuff, lol.

As for drum tabs, the drumming in the band Necrophagist is so insane, very few professional drummers can tab it out or play it even...

The point in this topic is to credit super talented bands who don't get credited enough.

Interesting how you mentioned that this thread is designed to credit talented bands who havn't been widely known, yet you put those ones in there =/ They seem to be pretty exposed to me. Perhaps I misunderstood you, seeing that I havn't slept for 19 hours.

Interesting read I suppose, may as well post some comments just for the hell of it.

Hehe Children of Bodom as death metal. I would disagree because they seem to lack the death metal "cookie monster" vocals. Hell, they are closer to black metal than death. www.metal-archives.com defines them as Power/Speed Metal with Harsh Vocals. That site never fails me, and I love it to death.

Necrophagist, Stefan Fimmers. He's a god, and we'll leave it at that.

Dragonforce is such an amusing band to watch live just because Herman Li is teh asian man with speed <3 I can>

=/ Claypool is a beast though. Vocals are definitly a weak point in Primus, but it's creative, I suppose.

And as for great drummers, I think this is quite impressive as far as mind numbing time signatures: http://youtube.com/watch?v=U5YEqmIIdj8 - Morgan Gren, I believe?

I listen to some forms of metal, But I find it weird how this demographic is the only one that wishes for their favorite bands to fail and have to break up within 1-2 years.

Theres no longevity in the genre for the selfproclaimed "True Fans" because as soon as a band signs on to a decent record label, get mentioned on TV, or lasts for more than a few years they are "SaleOuts" or "Old And Tired"...

I can unterstand why, but it is still weird. This genre was born into a younger audience that only listened to it because it isn't what their friends and family listen too. The Vocals aren't really "singing" in most bands, and the instrument work isn't really "playing" in most bands, so it's a genre that doesn't appeal to the masses. The goal for one of these selfproclaimed "True Metal Fans" is to find the most not-known-about weirdest gimmick band they can find and say that its their favorite band and look down on others that listen to "mainstream" stuff. So its only time until more and more people find this band and say they like them - Then once too many people like them they throw the Band's CDs away and say their too popular to listen to anymore. I think this is a rather stupid way to look at music, and most grow out of it with age.

FACT: All but 1-2 of the bands listed in this topic have been Mentioned on MTV. BLASPHEMY. MOST of them have had videos on regular rotation on MTV or MTV2 at some point.

BTW, MTV is a funny point. To these "Fans" getting a band mentioned on MTV means immedient and outright dropping of that band. MTV mentioning means the band has hit the "we cant like them anymore" point. MTV2 is different..if it is on MTV2...you cxan still "like" the band - but it cant be your favrotie band anymore because MTV2 is JUST pushing the envelope of popular.

Its Hilarious.

Well I listed SOME popular bands because not all popular bands are bad. Rush etc. is very well known and they're amazing.

Oh and for Primus, they own, the singer sings weird on purpose and it works out IMO. And they're very unique.

It's strange how some people believe that popularity means that the band is of poor quality. How do you think that they managed to hit such a high status? Sure, image can help, but in many cases (especially when it doesn't deal with MTV and radio coverage), there are popular bands who absolutely destroy everything along their way. Bands like Agalloch, Arsis, and Haggard are extremely popular amongst the people who have actually listened to their stuff. How much exposure to the media have they gotten? Well, maybe a few magazine articles, but that's it.

Primus? Messed up in the head, they are. I love it. It's even more amusing when Buckethead works with them too >_>

80% of popular bands get by on image, therefore they are crap. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Rush etc. are popular but don't get by on image they get by on talent. They are popular because they've been around really long aswell.

=/ Glam rock! Bwahaha

Kings of image, I swear. To tell you the trust, I don't think that Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, Aerosmite are all that bad. And what an image they behold.

Regarding popularity, you know, couldn't a band simply just have a catchy song? I know that gets you popular real quick, like those one-hit wonders you see all the time. People hear a song on the radio, don't know who the hell it is, but still think that they are amazing. Hell, I even liked Nickelback at one point for that song that killed the music industry when it came to popularity and I never even knew who they really were, or how they looked. That song was catchy, and I liked it. I'm sure that many more people were just like me and helped aid in their popularity at the time.

Once again, popularity does not mean poor quality. In fact, that Fall Out Boy band, they have an image, and they are popular. But that's not the end of it. A lot of people think that their music is catchy. It may be simple, it may be "emo", but it's likable regardless of the person's image.

Regarding Fall Out Boy, I like "Dance, Dance" because it's catchy but I hate "Sugar, We're Goin Down" with a passion. I like their videos because they're goofy IMO.
